The Christ Bearer

Dear Parish Family,
What a time for celebration! We’re at the beginning of a new church year, we have a
beautiful, new
cross in our courtyard, AND WE HAVE A NEW PRIEST who’s ours to continue to love! GOD IS GOOD!
St. Christopher’s has been so blessed throughout its history to be served by loving, dedicated priests,
all of whom have brought their own special gifts to us. And we are blessed once again.
Even before Rachel became our Vicar, she was serving us. She came to us as part of her discernment
process for ordained ministry, so we have shared in part of her story along that way. But Rachel was
alrea dy a woman of great warmth, intelligence, and creativity. She was already a servant of God. She
became a lay eucharistic minister, our webmaster, and our technical support in preparing the parish
profile for the Search Committee. Her dedication to serva nthood was already apparent. The Search
Committee came to recognize that she was our choice to become our Vicar and now our Rector.
People in our parish, as well as visitors, often comment that her sermons are insightful, thought
provoking, well ground ed in scripture, delivered with apparent ease, and crafted with humor and
good instruction. Our family describes her as joyful, cheerful, spiritual, welcoming, caring, like a
beautiful day when all things are working out well. “She has a real ‘way with w ords.’ Her vocabulary
is huge, and she can turn a phrase so eloquently.’” Another description given: “What a beautiful day!”
