From our Vicar –

Believe it or not, Advent will soon be here. Advent is a time of waiting and reflection. And change.

We normally make a few changes at that time, such as rotating our Lay Eucharistic Minister teams. We will do that again this year, with an added twist.

We are going to experiment with splitting the LEM duties. We will have both Lectors and Lay Eucharistic Ministers. If you have always wanted to read but not be a chalice bearer, this is your chance! If you want to serve at communion, but don’t feel comfortable reading the lessons, now is the time!

The Lectors will not be required to vest/wear a robe and process in with the choir and clergy. You may sit in your usual spot and come to the lectern when you read the lessons. Or, if you like, you may continue the practice of wearing an alb and joining the procession to the altar. We do ask that LEMs continue to vest.

I am excited that this change will allow for a wider participation from the congregation. Having the Lector come up from the congregation to participate in the service is symbolic of how our community is united in the worship of God. We are ALL ministers.

For this to work smoothly, we must be diligent with our scheduling. When you receive the newsletter, check the dates you will serve that month and set a reminder in your phone, put a note on the bathroom mirror or hire a sky-writing service to paint your reminder across the Saturday morning sky. Whatever works for you.

Please contact Jan Kireilis or me to sign up for Lector or LEM duty or both if you have not been involved in this ministry before. We will also have a table where you can sign up at rally day on September 12th.

Thank you so much for joining this ministry and widening the already impressive number of those who serve in this parish.

Rachel
